We are seeking an experienced and motivated Executive Director to lead a growing nonprofit organization focused on conservation, community engagement, and responsible growth initiatives in Southwest Montana. This leadership role is responsible for guiding the organization’s mission, overseeing daily operations, and supporting fundraising, outreach, and strategic relationship-building efforts with community members, stakeholders, and local agencies.
 
The Executive Director will serve as the organization’s primary ambassador, fostering partnerships and representing the organization across the region. This is a remote leadership role that combines strategic oversight with active community engagement, public outreach, and development work. The ideal candidate is diplomatic, relationship-driven, and well-connected, with the ability to bring people together around shared goals while building long-term trust and collaboration in support of the organization’s mission. Regular travel throughout the service area is required for meetings, events, networking, and community initiatives.

  • Salary Range: $75K to $95K depending upon experience + annual performance bonuses

Essential Functions and Duties:
  • Lead daily operations and advance the organization’s mission through strategic planning, ethical leadership, and community engagement
  • Partner with the Board of Directors to develop goals, coordinate meetings, implement initiatives, and support organizational governance
  • Plan and execute fundraising efforts, donor relations, and long-term financial strategies to ensure sustainable funding
  • Manage communications, marketing, outreach materials, events, and public relations to increase awareness and support
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson and representative in community meetings, partnerships, and stakeholder collaborations
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with property owners, community leaders, sponsors, donors, and other key stakeholders to support advocacy and outreach efforts
 
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience in management, business management, or a similar role
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least five years of professional experience in nonprofit leadership, business management, or a similar role
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and entrepreneurial skills with the ability to work independently and drive organizational growth
  • Proven fundraising experience and the ability to build relationships with donors, partners, community leaders, and stakeholders
  • Familiarity with conservation, land-use planning, zoning, or related fields preferred; knowledge of Montana and Madison County regulations is a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital communication tools, including websites, social media, and online fundraising platforms
  • Ability to travel throughout Madison County for meetings, events, and networking opportunities, with reliable internet access and technology for remote work
