A Hot Springs, Montana, Retreat Property is seeking a Ranch Caretaker to ensure the safety, security, and general upkeep of their ranch while maintaining a warm and welcoming presence for guests, staff, and surrounding community. This is an on-site position with housing provided in a newly renovated two-bedroom home.
As the Ranch Caretaker, you’ll maintain a strong presence traveling throughout the 8,900 acres of the ranch, ensuring everything is running smoothly and securely. You’ll be responsible for the security and supporting the maintenance team in managing the facilities, supporting overall ranch operations (landscaping, maintenance, permaculture), supporting emergency preparedness, and serving as a skilled and compassionate ambassador to our guests, neighbors, and local Tribal members.
Wage: $59,000/year
Essential Functions and Duties:
- Ensure ranch security and safety through daily patrols, emergency response, fire prevention planning, first aid maintenance, and coordination with emergency services
- Represent the ranch with professionalism and warmth to guests, local communities, Tribal partners, and external agencies, fostering a safe and welcoming environment
- Support landscaping and sustainable land management efforts, including weeding, planting, watering, forestry, fencing, weed control, and wildlife monitoring
- Collaborate on permaculture initiatives involving fruit and vegetable cultivation, harvesting, and stewardship of natural resources
- Conduct regular inspections and assist with repairs to mechanical, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and water systems; maintain compliance through accurate documentation
- Provide logistical and guest support for retreats (including after-hours), and use digital tools (Excel, Gmail, Slack, Asana) for task tracking, communication, and HVAC system operations
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in security, caretaking, facilities, or similar roles
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to traverse all terrain, work outdoors year-round and lift up to 40lbs
Preferred Qualifications or Willingness to Obtain:
- Wilderness First Responder or First Aid/CPR Instructor certification
- De-escalation and Non-Violent Communication training
- Experience with land and wildlife management
- Vehicle operation, including vans, ATVs, tractors, and golf carts
- Certified water systems operator
- Facilities or hospitality background
