Vice President of Engineering

A well-known, renewable energy resource company in Bozeman, Montana, is seeking a Vice President of Engineering to lead their team. With a mission to improve both the communities we live in and the planet we depend on, this company is dedicated to advancing clean energy through the development, engineering, procurement, and construction of projects, focused on LED lighting, solar, and energy storage.

Competitive Pay: Up to $225,000/year, depending on experience

Essential Functions and Duties: 
  • Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary engineering team, including electrical and civil engineers, project managers, and design specialists. Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Act as the technical authority across electrical and civil engineering functions for utility-scale solar projects. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements while delivering optimal project designs
  • Utilize PE certification to provide project stamps for both electrical and civil engineering components as required. Ensure all stamped designs adhere to local, state, and federal regulations
  • Oversee all phases of engineering for utility-scale solar projects, from initial feasibility studies through to design, procurement, and construction. Ensure that engineering deliverables meet project timelines, quality, and budget targets
  • Collaborate with the executive team to set and achieve long-term goals, aligning engineering capabilities with the company's growth strategy and project pipeline
  • Build and maintain relationships with technology vendors, consultants, and contractors. Conduct technical evaluations and negotiate terms to optimize engineering outcomes and project costs
  • Develop and manage the engineering department budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources to meet project demands while controlling costs
  • Identify potential risks in project designs and field operations, developing mitigation strategies to ensure safety and reliability throughout the project lifecycle

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Civil, or related field). PE certification in either electrical or civil engineering, with the ability to stamp projects
  • 10+ years of engineering leadership experience in the renewable energy sector, with a strong background in both electrical and civil engineering for utility-scale solar projects
  • Comprehensive knowledge of solar PV system design, site grading, foundation requirements, and energy modeling. Familiarity with applicable electrical and civil engineering codes and standards
  • Proven ability to manage and inspire a high-performing technical team, with a focus on collaboration, innovation, and results
  • Demonstrated success in managing large, complex solar EPC projects from design to completion, with a strong focus on meeting timelines, budgets, and quality standards
  • In-depth understanding of relevant industry regulations and standards, with the ability to ensure compliance across electrical and civil project aspects
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience working within the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) model
  • Familiarity with energy storage systems and hybrid renewable projects
  • Proficiency in design and modeling tools such as AutoCAD, PVSyst, and project management software
  • Established network within the solar and renewable energy sectors, including key vendors and industry stakeholders
