Essential Functions and Duties:
  • Provide leadership and support to Purchasing Clerks, Buyers, and Material Bid Coordinators by offering guidance, training, and expertise; assist in setting goals, objectives, policies, and procedures while maintaining clear operational boundaries to support company objectives with minimal executive involvement
  • Oversee departmental personnel decisions, including recommendations for hiring, termination, promotion, demotion, or disciplinary actions; take necessary supervisory actions in line with company policy and ensure all materials department employees perform successfully
  • Develop and manage the Purchasing budget and work closely with the Bid & Proposal Department, Manufacturing Manager, and Inventory Manager to coordinate and support the production schedule through effective material planning and purchasing strategies
  • Establish and enforce purchasing procedures to ensure materials are acquired in alignment with the production schedule; maintain performance objectives for all team members and provide regular feedback through scheduled reviews
  • Participate actively in departmental planning and operations, including budgeting, training, and strategic meetings; contribute to continuous improvement efforts across all materials management processes
  • Maintain and oversee accuracy of the MRPII system, ensure parts lists are entered and updated correctly, and collaborate with accounting to assist in the preparation of financial statements

Qualifications:
  • Associate’s degree in related field or 5 years’ experience with progressively responsible experience in purchasing in a manufacturing environment required
  • B.S./B.A. Business/Management or related field preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in purchasing and/or management fields
  • 10 years’ experience in related field(s) with increasing supervisory experience preferred
  • Skill, Knowledge and Abilities Able to demonstrate effective leadership and communications skills in a purchasing environment
  • Knowledgeable in general business and management principles
  • The ability to understand UCC regulations and negotiating techniques
