Essential Functions and Duties:
- Problem Solving and Critical Thinking
- Ensure department supervisors and leads are completing the required training and safety documentation
- Strive to safely grow production and quality by implementing well thought out and evaluated practices
- Analyze uptime/downtime regularly to strive for consistency and efficiency
- Plan and execute daily, weekly, monthly production schedules and communicate with the Sales Manager, Plant Manager, Boiler Kiln Supervisor, and other leadership as needed
- Implement practices that provide continuous improvement to safety, facilities, rolling stock, or procedures within the policies
- Work closely with the Plant Manager and other mill personnel as well as contractors and vendors to ensure equipment and resources are in peak condition
- Interact with and utilize various vendors and suppliers that have been established as well as actively searching for new resources or concepts
- Must be open to process advancement and be able to be a key driving force in the successful startup of new equipment, ideas, and products
- Maintain planer mill consumables and supplies to ensure consistent and efficient operation
- Lumber Review and Inspections
- Constantly evaluate the accuracy of lumber grade as well as grade percentage and trim loss trends to identify areas of improvement
- Work closely with the plant manager to ensure proper handling and use of Resources
- Follow up and evaluate results of daily lumber inspections and review results with the planer supervisor and sales, and any other relevant entities to identify opportunities or irregularities
- Work Closely with the Plant Manager as well as machinery/supply vendors to eliminate the risk of unscheduled downtime or significant problems with supplies or consumables
- Ensure that as a Dry End Manager, you contribute to a Culture that encourages open discussion, training, encouragement, as well as consistency in working with employees
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 3+ years of managerial experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment, preferably in planer mill or dry kilns
- 5+ years of supervisory experience is highly preferred
- Advanced knowledge of lumber grading rules and industry best practices
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a track record of operational improvements
- Solid communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proficient with industrial control systems and mechanical equipment
- Moderate computer skills for record-keeping and communication (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and work in various weather conditions typical of western Montana
- Ability to pass background checks, drug tests, and any additional work-related screenings
