Patient Access Representative

We are looking to hire for a professional-minded Patient Access Representative for a local health care facility located in the Kalispell area.  We need someone who knows how to communicate effectively with patients who might be experiencing discomfort or stress and is able to work under pressure and react appropriately in emergency situations.

The Patient Access Representative will initiate the process for admitting patients by collecting pertinent information to ensure accurate and complete billing in compliance with policies and regulations. The position will also coordinate appointments and documentation to facilitate the smooth functioning of the healthcare delivery environment and support the delivery of quality patient care.

Pay:  $17 to $18 hour, depending on experience
Schedule:  Monday through Friday, with hours varying between 7 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Essential Duties:
  • Provide outstanding professional phone management skills minimizing hold time
  • Answer inquiries in a calm and consistent manner and connect patients to staff appropriately with items outside the scope of the reception staff
  • Create a welcoming atmosphere by greeting patients and visitors to the clinic
  • Check patients in for appointments while verifying demographic, financial, and insurance information accuracy and meeting HRSA requirements
  • Assist patients in determining eligibility for sliding fee schedule discounts and link patients to insurance enrollment assistance when appropriate
  • Inform patients of clinic procedures and policy
  • Check patients out from appointments and assess fees for the services rendered, calculates sliding fee scale reductions, and collect payments in the form of cash, check, or credit
  • Assist patients with payment plans
  • Maintain records of monies received and balance payments with receipts
  • Obtain patient authorization for release of medical records and comply with all HIPAA and other federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to patient privacy
  • Schedule appointments with the appropriate program, provider, and time slot to meet the needs of the patient while complying with licensing restrictions and requirements of the providers
  • Compile information from files, make copies of documents, maintain medical files, and complete daily logs and monthly activity reports
  • Maintain cleanliness of the waiting room and reception areas

Skills and Experience Required:
  • High school diploma; Associates Degree preferred
  • One (1) year’s relevant experience or training preferred
  • Experience with electronic health records preferred
  • Ability to use discretion while working with sensitive information
  • Able to adjust approach to meet a diverse set of patients’ needs
