The Boiler Operator is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and consistent operation of a wood fuel hybrid boiler system and lumber dry kilns. This position oversees proper boiler firing, monitors kiln performance, verifies lumber moisture levels, and supports process optimization to maintain product quality and maximize operational uptime.

Essential Functions and Duties:
- Operates and monitors a wood fuel boiler system, ensuring safe startup, shutdown, fuel feeding, and combustion control to maintain proper steam pressure and temperature
- Performs routine inspections, safety checks, and basic maintenance of boiler components, including grates, ash removal, gauges, and emission systems
- Troubleshoots boiler system alarms and coordinates with maintenance teams for necessary repairs
- Loads, unloads, and monitors lumber in drying kilns, adjusting temperature, humidity, and venting to optimize drying schedules
- Measures and records lumber moisture content using handheld meters and in-kiln sensors to ensure quality and process efficiency
- Maintains detailed operational logs, conducts water sampling, and communicates with mill departments to support production priorities and seasonal transitions
Qualifications:
- Committed to safety and able to follow all company safety policies and procedures
- Physically capable of performing demanding tasks, including lifting 50+ lbs, climbing, shoveling, and working in varied conditions
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Class 2 Boiler Operator Certificate required or attainable
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience operating industrial boilers and/or lumber kilns preferred
- Knowledge of biomass fuel systems, moisture measurement tools, and strong mechanical aptitude
- Forklift certification preferred; willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
